JENIN, (PIC)– The Israeli Gilboa prison administration has refused to allow a lawyer of the Mandela institution for human rights to visit detained Hamas leader Sheikh Jamal Abul Haija in his isolation ward.

Family of the detainee told the PIC reporter that the Mandela lawyer went to visit Abul Haija, 52, on Monday but the prison administration denied him the visit.

They said that the family wished to inquire about the health of Abul Haija, who is on hunger strike and who suffers many illnesses.

The family, fearing for Abul Haija’s life, appealed to human rights groups and Arab members of the Israeli Knesset to intervene and allow visits to the Sheikh who has been in isolation for eight years and was deprived of visits ever since his detention ten years ago with the exception of his daughter Sajeda, who has also been deprived of such visits by 14/3/2012 after she became 16.
