Al-Qassam website – The member of the Political Bureau of Hamas Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya stressed that all options are open to force the Zionist occupation to respond to the humanitarian demands of the prisoners, adding that his movement is making intensive diplomatic efforts to end the suffering of more than 4,600 Palestinian prisoners.

Al-Hayya said that Hamas sent letters to Arab and international parties demanding it to assume its responsibilities regarding the suffering of the prisoners, pointing out that there is support provided by Hamas for some Palestinian communities located in some European countries to force their governments to pay attention to the suffering of prisoners in Israeli jails.

He added that “the Egyptian side have to take a clear position with regard to the failure of the Zionist government on the implementation of the terms of a deal that have been mediated by Egypt,” noting that Meshaal agreed with the Arab on the internationalization of the issue of Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli jails.

Meshaal said in a press conference in Cairo, the Secretary-General of the Arab League promised that “an international movement to call for convening a special session of the General Assembly of the United Nations to discuss the issue of prisoners.”

At least 1,200 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails launched an open-ended hunger strike on April 17.

The latest estimates from Addameer suggest that over 2,000 prisoners are now participating in strike hunger.
