NABLUS, (PIC)– Director of Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies and Human Rights, Fouad Khuffash, reported that 24 ill Palestinian prisoners in the Zionist Megiddo prison decided to launch a hunger strike and refuse medication on Monday, in solidarity with the rest of the striking prisoners in occupation jails.

Khuffash affirmed that the prisoners are suffering from several chronic illnesses and need food and medicines regularly. However, they decided to join the rest of the prisoners in their 14th day of strike despite their serious health conditions, amongst them the journalist Nawaf Al Amer (50 years), and university lecturer Dr Mohammed Ghazal (55 years).

Meanwhile, according to Khuffash, Megiddo prison was witnessing a big tension on Monday, after the Prison Administration’s decision to transfer prisoners of “Section 5” to other sections in preparation to bring the Palestinian prisoners of Gilboa to “Section 5” in the Megiddo prison.

The human rights activist also said that through these repressive and provocative measures, the prison administration aims to tire the captive and make him lose calories during his transfer and wants to create a state of instability in the prisons.

Khuffash said that “Section 5” in Megiddo prison can accommodate 120 Palestinian prisoners and that their transfer and distribution in six sections created a state of instability and provocation to the prisoners. He also asserted that this strike consolidated the unity of the Palestinian people of different political persuasions.

Furthermore, he called for support activities to pressure politically the Zionist prison service to meet the prisoners’ demands.
