GAZA, (PIC)– Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum urged the newly-elected president of France Francois Hollande to put the Palestinian cause at the top of his agenda and rectify his country’s policies towards the rights of the Palestinian people.

In a press release on Tuesday, Barhoum expressed his Movement’s hope that Hollande could set things right regarding his country’s attitude towards the Palestinian cause in a way that respects the just rights of the Palestinian people and their democratic choice.

The spokesman said the new president should work on ending the blockade imposed on Gaza and the political isolation imposed on the elected Palestinian leadership.

“As we respect the right of other peoples to elect their representatives who can lead them and defend their rights, the Palestinian people’s right to practice democracy and elect their representatives should also be respected,” the spokesman underlined.

“Unfortunately, however, the ongoing international interventions in the internal Palestinian affairs and the unjust conditions set by the quartet [on the middle east] are the greatest obstruction to the Palestinian democracy and the main cause of its destruction,” he added.

The spokesman, finally, invited in his statement the new president of France to visit Gaza to see closely the suffering of its besieged people.
