GAZA, (PIC)– Dozens of people took part in a march in Gaza on Monday in solidarity with Mahmoud Sarsak, who has been on hunger strike in Israeli occupation jails for 82 days.
A number of officials and notables participated in the march that proceeded from the Red Cross to the UN offices west of Gaza city.
Sarsak, a footballer from the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces on 22/7/2009 while en route from the Strip to the West Bank to join his new club Shabab Balata.
Minister of culture, sports, and youth Dr. Mohammed Al-Madhoun called on the UN and FIFA, in a statement at conclusion of the march, to intervene and demand the release of Sarsak, who is a member of the Palestinian national team.
Sarsak has been in administrative custody, without charge, since his arrest and has gone on hunger strike to demand his release.
A group of children sharing in the rally called for the release of all Palestinian prisoners and handed the UN office a memo asking for its intervention to secure the release of Sarsak.
