GAZA (PIC)– Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Studies confirmed that the prisoners in Eichel prison in Be’er Sheva started on Tuesday a hunger strike to protest the storming of the prison yesterday by Nahshon special units and the abuse of prisoners by beating and closing the entire section.

Riad Ashkar, the center’s director, stated that the prisoners would refuse today’s 3 meals in solidarity with the prisoners in section 11 who had been subjected to the maltreatment, the oppression and the brutality of the special units that had broken into the section and abused the prisoners after they had refused to submit to strip searches.

He pointed out that the prisoners in Eichel prison consider that the strike of today is just the first step, and that they will escalate their struggle steps in case the prison service administration would not retreat from its sanctions and promise not to return to the policy of strip searches.

Ashkar stressed that the prisoners will never accept any form of the humiliating policy of strip searches, and that they have the will and the ability to sacrifice everything for the sake of their dignity.

The prisoners appealed, through the center, to all Palestinian people belonging to different institutions and factions to stand alongside and support them.
