Egyptian authorities close Rafah terminal

GAZA, (PIC)– The Egyptian authorities closed the Rafah border terminal between Sinai and Gaza Strip without prior notice afternoon Sunday, security sources said.

The sources told the PIC reporter that the authorities closed the terminal at 0200 pm local time after allowing only five buses were allowed to travel with their load of passengers.

They said that eight other buses were already filled with passengers but were not allowed to enter the Egyptian side of the crossing.

The sources noted that the closure would complicate the travel crisis due to the fact that the terminal was closed for several days during the Egyptian presidential elections and ensuing days.

Egyptian media reported that the security authorities tightened measures in Sinai and El-Arish, closed Al-Salam bridge, and separated southern Sinai from its northern areas only two hours before results of the presidential elections were to be announced.
