RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Detainee Samer Al-Barq is in a very serious health condition and is suffering from irregular heartbeats, the lawyer of the Dameer foundation for human rights said.
She said in a statement on Wednesday that she visited him in the Israeli Ramle prison clinic and found him exhausted after 35 days of hunger strike.
She quoted Barq as saying that he would continue in his hunger strike protesting renewal of his administrative detention, without charge, for three months despite promises to the contrary.
The Israeli prison service (IPS) moved Barq to an isolation cell after he refused treatment. Barq said that he would escalate his strike and would stop drinking water unless the IPS abided by its promise to release him.
Barq, who is from Jayus village in Qalqilia, had ended a previous hunger strike after the IPS judicial advisor told him that the agreement with the prisoners under Egyptian patronage would include him. The agreement, which followed a massive one month hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners, had stipulated among other things non-renewal of administrative detention.
