Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s Etzion Prison started an open hunger strike on Wednesday in protest at the conditions of their detention.According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, 25 prisoners have gone on hunger strike because their food rations have been reduced by the Israeli authorities, they are treated very badly by their guards and their break time has been cut to 30 minutes a day.
A press release from the prisoners’ club also claimed that the authorities are still using solitary confinement as a punishment for Palestinians, without any justification. Trials have also been delayed due to overcrowding in the courts, meaning that prisoners are being held on remand in very poor conditions.
