RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Palestinian prisoner Ayman Ismail Sharawna, from Dura southern Al-Khalil city, has gone on an open hunger strike for twenty days in a row protesting against his re-arrest without any legal justification.
Sharawna was an ex-detainee sentenced to 38 years in occupation prisons. He was liberated under Wafa Al-Ahrar exchange deal, and then re-arrested late January 2012.
Since the first day of his arrest, the occupation authorities offered him exile to the Gaza Strip or Jordan or any other country, but he refused, the prisoner said to his lawyer during his visit in Rimon prison.
He added that he suffers serious health deterioration due to his hunger strike and his weight has decreased. Sharawna said that suffers sharp pain in his back and knees, pointing out that an Israeli doctor offered him a palliative drug on condition he stopped his hunger strike but he refused.
Sharawna called for raising the issue of the liberated prisoners who were re-arrested without any legal justification in total violation of what have been agreed upon in Wafa Al-Ahrar deal through Egyptian mediation.
The occupation has arrested nine other prisoners liberated in that same deal under the pretext of violating the agreement terms.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.
The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
