Warning of fresh campaign of arrests against Palestinian MPs

GAZA, (PIC)– Palestine Center for Prisoners’ Studies has warned against a renewed campaign of arrests against members of PLC and Change and Reform MPs in particular.

The director of the Center, Riyadh Ashkar, stated in a press release that the occupation’s decision to consider the Change and Reform bloc as a banned organization came to pave the way for arresting its MPs.

“This is a serious decision that establishes a new phase in dealing with democratically elected representatives,” he said.

The Israeli occupation authority had launched an arrest campaign against 56 of Palestinian MPs topped by the PLC speaker Aziz Dweik following the capture of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in the Gaza Strip in June 2006.

Meanwhile, an Israeli court has renewed the administrative detention of the MP Abdul Jabbar Fokaha for three months.

Change and Reform bloc has warned against the increased number of Palestinian MPs held in occupation jails.

The bloc described, in a press release on Wednesday, the MPs’ trials as “illegal and invalid”, and held the international community responsible for the IOA violations against the legitimate representatives of the Palestinian people.
