NABLUS, (PIC)– Political prisoner Mohammed Jawad Alkottut declared, from Junaid prison in Nablus on Wednesday, an open hunger strike protesting his continued detention for more than four years and half.

Alkottut family told PIC that PA authority claimed that his arrest came to protect him from the Israeli arrest, calling for their son’s immediate release.

Alkottut, 28, was arrested by a PA security apparatus in Nablus in 2007, where he was subjected to torture during investigation for several months, causing many diseases, including irregular heartbeats and hearing loss in his right ear.

Meanwhile, PA security apparatuses summoned on Wednesday a number of students of the Islamic bloc at Al-Khalil University.

A student from Al-Khalil University told PIC that PA security services violated the agreement that banned their arrest only 17 days after its signing.

He also pointed out that the Israeli occupation arrested Islamic bloc representative in Al-Khalil University Ala Aza’aqik after his release from PA prisons where he was questioned about his union activity and not for security reasons as they claimed.

The student called on Al-Khalil governor and PA Interior Minister who signed the agreement and head of the Freedoms Committee, Dr. Khalil Assaf, the agreement’s mediator, to pressure PA security services to abide by the agreement and by the Palestinian law which allows union activities.

He accused the security services of coordinating with the Israeli occupation forces to arrest students who protested at the university, saying that the IOF arrested seven student protestors.

Students at Al-Khalil University had ended their sit-in on campus against political detention that lasted 35 days following an agreement between them and PA interior ministry that prevents students’ arrest for their union activities.
