Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has called for an end to the Israeli-imposed siege on the Gaza Strip during Eid al-Fitr, Press TV reports.

“We see our Arab and Muslim brothers living with us in this unjust blockade on this Eid. They come from far and near countries to break the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza,” Haniyeh said on Sunday.

He addressed thousands of people, who attended the morning prayers of Eid al-Fitr that marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Hamas premier also pledged cooperation with the new Egyptian government.

“We reiterate our readiness to cooperate with our brothers in Egypt to ensure the security of our borders and our common interests,” Haniyeh said.

The Gaza Strip has been blockaded since 2007, which is a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

Rights organizations have criticized Israel for imposing a crippling blockade on the coastal enclave, saying that the measure is directly targeting ordinary Gazans.
