QALAILIYA (Ma’an) — A Palestinian worker died after he tried to escape Israeli forces pursuing him for crossing through Israel’s separation barrier in the northern West Bank, witnesses told Ma’an on Sunday.

Thaer Abu Shaluf was with a group of laborers trying to pass the fence near Azzun al-Atma around 4 a.m. on Sunday when Israeli forces spotted them.

While the group fled, Abu Shaluf complained of a severe pain in his chest, and collapsed. He was taken away by Israeli soldiers and authorities later informed Palestinian officials that he had died.

His body was retrieved and taken to Qalqiliya hospital, witnesses said.

Abu Shaluf, who has four children, was doing manual labor in Israeli settlements, they told Ma’an.

An Israeli army spokesman said he was looking into the incident.
