GAZA, (PIC)– Dr. Attallah Abu al-Subbah, Minister of Prisoners and Ex-prisoners, congratulated captive Samer al-Barq for his steadfastness facing the occupation, and the agreement providing his release.

Samer al-Barq has launched an open hunger strike which lasted for 118 days, to protest his continued detention without charges against him.

Abu al-Subbah considered the decision to deport captive al-Barq from his country a “new Zionist crime” against humanity and against the right of Palestinians to live on their homeland.

He also stressed that such measure is unacceptable illegal because it violates all international norms and conventions.

The minister stated that captive al-Barq was forced to accept deportation after his steadfastness during which he confronted all previous attempts for deporting him. Yet, being forced to choose between death in prison and life outside, Samer chose to live for his homeland and his cause.

Prisoners’ minister hailed all official and popular efforts that supported captive al-Barq and all other hunger striking prisoners, stressing on the need to pursue these efforts to expose the practices of “the criminal occupation against the brave prisoners”, especially the hunger strikers and patient captives.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
