JENIN, (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority released on Thursday morning the Palestinian lawmaker Ahmad Haj Ali (74 years) from Megiddo prison after a 16-month administrative detention, without charge or trial.

Hundreds of people and Islamic MPs gathered at the Salem military roadblock, west of Jenin, to welcome the released lawmaker.

The information office of the Islamic MPs told PIC correspondent that MPs were holding a banquet in Jenin in honour of MP Ali. He will then be escorted to his home in Nablus.

The IOF arrested MP Ali, the eldest member of the Palestinian Legislative Council on 7 Jun 2011. He was then held under administrative detention which was renewed several times, prompting him to go on hunger strike until he gained a decision to be released from prison.

The occupation still holds eight Hamas lawmakers, in addition to two Fatah lawmakers and the Secretary General of the PFLP, who is also an elected member of the PLC.
