NAZARETH, (PIC)– A Patriot surface-to-air missile battery was deployed in the city of Haifa in the northern occupied Palestinian territories on Monday, two days after an unmanned aircraft breached occupied territories’ airspace from the Mediterranean, Israeli media reported.

The Hebrew radio said that the Israel Occupation Forces (IOF) deployed in Haifa area the missile battery, which includes a system of early warning, for fear that “hostile parties would send more unmanned aircraft to Israel, such as the plane that was intercepted two days ago”, as the radio said.

IOF officials were quoted by Israeli Haaretz daily newspaper as saying that the deployment was not an emergency measure, and such systems are deployed to the area from time to time.

The spokesman for the occupation army has announced shooting down an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle that penetrated al-Khalil’s airspace in the southern occupied West Bank on Saturday morning, in one of the most flagrant violations of its airspace in years.

He said that he presumed that “Hezbollah” is the one behind the incident, noting that the drone did not carry explosives and likely had been dispatched on an intelligence-gathering mission, as well as to test Israel’s air defenses and to spy on “the Dimona” reactor.

For his part, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said: “We take a severe view of the attempt to violate Israeli airspace and we will consider our response,” as he said.
