Arab League: attacks on al-Aqsa and holy sites threaten the region’s security

Palestinian Information Center | Oct 12, 2012

CAIRO, (PIC)– The Arab League Council condemned the serious, systematic and repeated violations on the occupied city of Jerusalem by the Israeli occupation authorities, and the escalation of attacks on the sanctity of the Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The council criticized in a statement on Thursday “the repeated attempts by Israeli extremists to storm al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyards and their attack on worshipers, as the continuous aggression on the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil.”

It considered those attacks flagrant defiance of the international resolutions, the norms of international law and the Geneva Conventions, which stipulate maintaining the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The statement also warned the Israeli occupation authorities of the consequences of taking any aggressive action targeting al-Aqsa Mosque, and stressed that the city of Jerusalem, and foremost its al-Aqsa mosque and all Muslim and Christian holy sites, represents a red line that should not be bypassed and that any attack on them will threaten the security and stability in the entire region.
