AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– The liberated prisoner, Rafat Nasif, has visited, after his release from the Israeli jails on Sunday, the protest tent set up in solidarity with hunger striker Ayman Sharawna in the town of Deir Samit west of Dora in the al-Khalil district.

The occupation authorities have released Nassif on Sunday afternoon after spending 44 months in administrative detention in Negev prison in southern occupied Palestine. He was greeted by a number of Islamist MPs on the Dahriya checkpoint south of al-Khalil from where he went immediately to the protest tent.

Nassif stated that all the Palestinian prisoners and the hunger striker Ayman Sharawna thanked all those who support and stand by them.

“The prisoners’ resolve will win. The will of Ayman Sharawna, Samer al-Barq and Samer al-Issawi and all the hunger strikers in Israeli jails will destroy the Israeli restrictions soon,” Nassif said addressing Sharawna’s family.

He added that “134 days have passed and he still believes that his goal will be achieved.” Nassif urged the prisoners’ families and all humanitarian and international institutions to stand permanently behind the prisoners, and to work for their release.

The Islamist MPs have also organized on Sunday the solidarity visit to the protest tent set up in the house of the prisoners Aymen Sharawna, who has gone on an open hunger strike since 134 days in a row.

MP Mohammed Abu Ajehish has said in the solidarity tent with Sharawna that the prisoners issue is a constant of the Palestinian national constants, calling on all human rights and humanitarian organizations to stand seriously with the Palestinian prisoners especially that they are fighting in the empty stomachs battle despite the Israeli attempts to destroy their steadfastness and will.

MP Abu Ajehichh greeted the legendary steadfastness of the Palestinian prisoners, especially the hunger strikers and the legend Ayman Sharawna.

Our prisoners are fighting to break their shackles through the hunger strike and deprivation and they succeeded to achieve victory against their jailers, he said.

For her part, Ayman Sharawna’s mother called for a serious popular support for the prisoners who are facing death in the Israeli jails. They are making their cells’ keys through their hunger strike, defiance and steadfastness, she added.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
