NABLUS, (PIC)– Argentine artist and human rights activist Elizabeth Drabkina announced her solidarity with the Palestinian hunger strikers in occupation jails, stressing through her paintings that the Palestinian prisoners are not alone.

“I’m an activist here in my country, not only for the rights of my people, also for the rights of others in the world, even if they are miles away, I think that they are part of the same struggle. We cannot expect the freedom only for a territory; the real freedom must be internationalist, because we cannot be free, if other brothers live behind the walls,” Elizabeth, 23, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, told Ahrar center for Prisoners studies and human rights.

At 19, I began to study the Palestinian issue my own way, books, papers, documentaries, and the internet, and took me a while to understand what was going on, identify the complicity of the countries that allowed (and continue to do) this open-air prison, countries that openly support Israel, those who are lackeys and those who prefer to look the other way, she said, adding that Ahrar Center’s English site helped her to discover the Israeli crimes against the unarmed Palestinian people.

we participated in all the activities that had to do with the Palestinian’s struggle in my country, but always with a perspective based from the international people, in fact when I was on the demonstrations, shouting by my voice, I always accompanied the Palestinian flag, this made many people approach me and wanting to know more, she said.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
