BEIRUT, RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Khaled Mishaal, head of Hamas political bureau, phoned the family of Jerusalemite captive Samer al-Issawi, who has been on hunger strike for more than 207 days.

A statement issued by the movement’s Information Office said that Mishaal spoke to captive Samer’s parents and sister, lawyer Shirin, and stressed on the support of the Palestinian people, forces and factions for Samer and all the captives in the occupation jails, particularly the hunger strikers.

The Hamas leader told the Issawi family that he had contacted the Egyptian intelligence chief, Minister Raafat Shehata, and a number of Arab and Muslim officials and asked them to pressure Israel to release Samer and the rest of hunger striking prisoners.

Mishaal stressed that he will continue to make efforts until the release of Samer and all the hunger strikers, and asserted that the prisoners’ issue “will always be at the top of our national priorities.”

Meanwhile, Samer al-Issawi has sent to his sister Shirin, on Thursday, a letter in which he asks the PA and the Egyptian leadership to prevent the Israeli occupation from carrying out autopsy on his body in case he dies before being released from prison.

Issawi described in his letter his hunger strike as “a battle of survival, existence and self-assertion”, and that his case is not personal but is rather a “national case.”

He also thanked the Palestinian people for supporting his hunger strike, and asked to be buried at the Aqsa Mosque.
