RAMALLAH, AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– The hunger striking prisoner Ayman Sharawna, 37 from the city of al-Khalil, said that the Israeli prison administration has been deliberately holding him in solitary confinement and transferring him from one jail to another, in light of his difficult health conditions.

Captive Sharawna told the Prisoner Society’s lawyer, who visited him in Ayla solitary confinement in Beersheba, that he has been living in very difficult conditions in light of the prison administration’s repressive and provocative actions against him.

The lawyer stressed that the health status of the prisoner was very serious, as he seemed unable to talk well and was suffering pain all over his body, due to his ongoing hunger strike.

Ayman Sharawna appealed to the free peoples in the world to save and support him, stressing that he is determined to continue his hunger strike until achieving his release.

Sharawna’s family members and a number of peace activists have decided to start on Sunday an open hunger strike in solidarity with their detained son at the Red Cross headquarters in al-Khalil, until Ayman is released or returned to the hospital, Ayman’s brother Jihad said in press releases.

He pointed out that his brother, who has been held for a month in solitary confinement without receiving any treatment suffers a very serious health condition and is in his last days.

He also condemned the attitude of negligence and marginalization by the Palestinian factions and Authority regarding his hunger striking brother’s condition, and called for popular and official moves to support him.

Captive Sharawna had gone on hunger strike on the 1st of last July and continued it for 140 days after which he suspended his strike, to resume it on January 16, 2013.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
