The Israeli Supreme Court, on Wednesday, postponed hearing in the case of the Palestinian prisoner, Ayman al-Sharawneh, who has been on hunger strike for 235 days.

The hearing session was postponed until February 28, according to Al-Sharawneh’s brother, who was disallowed from attending the session which was previously scheduled for today.

Al-Sharawneh’s lawyer said that his client was brought to the court yard in a wheelchair and he was evidently suffering from a “very serious health condition.”

Commenting further, the lawyer said Al-Sharawneh might die any time.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, the family of Derar Abu Sisi, who has been in solitary confinement in Israeli jails for two years, called for his immediate release after his health condition worsened dramatically.

During a press conference held in Gaza, Abu Sisi’s wife, who is originally Ukrainian, said her husband is suffering in every part of his body. She added, “He lost 40 kg because of the bad food and ill-treatment.”

Israeli Mossad operatives kidnapped Abu Sisi from the Ukrainian capital on February 18, 2011. He was later secretly transported to Israel. Some reports allege that he was flown in tight coffin; since then he has been kept in solitary confinement.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
