Musical Intifada | 24 February 2013 | by Dr. Tariq Shadid aka Doc Jazz
If it hadn’t been for the attentiveness of Dr. Lina El Houssein in the Netherlands, we might never have known – but Doc Jazz’s song ‘HUNGRY’ was played at the end of the Dubai TV program ‘Qabil linniqaash’ (‘Up for Discussion’), which had a special feature about the courageous hunger strike protests of Palestinians in Israeli ‘administrative detention’.
A video capture of this broadcast was added to the Youtube movie collection of the Musical Intifada, and subtitles were added (as annotations) to enable non-Arabic speakers to understand what the presenter is saying about Doc Jazz and the song. Watch this excerpt here below, but if you understand Arabic, you should not miss this entirely excellent episode which features an in-depth discussion between Palestinian experts on the issue. Prominent guest in the show is Akram Rikhawi, who was recently released after having been on an impressive hunger strike against his detention. Rikhawi’s longest uninterrupted hunger strike lasted no less than 102 days.

We thank Dr. Lina for bringing this to our attention, and we thank Dubai TV for their efforts to highlight the struggle of our courageous political prisoners who wage the ‘battle of the empty stomachs’ against the racist occupation forces of the Zionist state. “On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.
The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
