British activists are to hold an emergency protest outside the London headquarter of security company G4S in solidarity with a Palestinian inmate who died in an Israeli prison.

The demonstration is planned to be held on Friday, March 1, to condemn G4S’s complicity in Arafat Jaradat’s death, as the private company provides expertise and security systems to Israeli jails, in which the Palestinian man was interrogated and died.

The protest, which is organized by the London-based Islamic Human Rights Council (IHRC) and Innovative Minds (inminds), is dubbed “Arafat Jaradat tortured to death in G4S secured Israeli prisons”.

Arafat Jaradat, who was arrested on February 18 on suspicion he was involved in hurling stones at Israeli troopers, died on Saturday in Magiddo prison. Israel claims that Jaradat had died of cardiac arrest, a claim Palestinians deny.

On Sunday, The Palestinian Authority’s Minister for Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Qaraqea revealed that the 30-year-old man had been tortured before he died in Israeli custody.

G4S has been heavily criticized for its cooperation with the Israeli regime, including providing equipment and services to Israeli checkpoints, illegal settlements, the apartheid wall and jails where Palestinian political prisoners are being held in violation of international law and subjected to mistreatment and torture.

A second demonstration has been also organized to take place outside the BBC Broadcasting House on Saturday, March 3, because of the corporation’s continuing silence on covering the plight of Palestinian hunger strikers such as Samer Al-Issawi and Ayman Sharawna.

The two Palestinian political prisoners have been refusing food for more than seven months to gain release from Israeli regime’s detention centers.

“Palestinian prisoners are suffering at the hands of the Israelis, yet the media is neither covering it adequately nor are they covering the fact that a British security company provides support to the Israeli security apparatus. We need to target both the BBC and G4S,” said Chair of IHRC Massoud Shadjareh.
