images_News_2013_04_17_clashes_300_0[1]AL-KHALIL, JENIN, NABLUS, (PIC)– Violent clashes broke out on Wednesday near the Aroub refugee camp north of al-Khalil following a raid by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF).

Eyewitnesses told PIC that dozens of Israeli soldiers surrounded the camp’s main entrance, adjacent to the road between Bethlehem and al-Khalil, and fired tear gas grenades and metal bullets towards Palestinian school students and young men, causing them to suffocate.

The witnesses added that a number of Israeli soldiers and patrols were extensively deployed in the region.

Meanwhile, the IOF erected a checkpoint at the eastern entrance to Ya’bad village south of Jenin, and started stopping the vehicles and obstructing their movement.

Local sources said that the Israeli soldiers have randomly stopped and searched dozens of vehicles at the checkpoint and checked the identities of citizens.

The sources pointed out that the IOF detained and questioned a number of young men and deliberately prevented the citizens from arriving to their work place.

Another military checkpoint was also erected on Wednesday morning by two patrols from the border guards at the entrance to the village of Kafr Qaddoum east of Qalqilya.

Eyewitnesses said that the soldiers provocatively checked the identities of citizens and attacked a number of them, then announced the village a closed military zone.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
