JERUSALEM (Ma’an) — The Israeli rights group B’tselem on Tuesday condemned Israel’s use of dogs to attack unarmed Palestinians.
“The use of dogs to attack citizens in unacceptable and immoral,” B’Tselem’s executive director said in a letter to the legal consultant of the Israeli army in the West Bank. “This is a dangerous tool that cannot be controlled. It causes panic between people, and has led to serious injuries in certain cases.”
The letter referred to an incident May 15 when three men from Beit Ula were trying to get into Israel to work. They were stopped by the Israeli army but tried to flee. One of them was shot with a rubber-coated steel bullet, and two were attacked by dogs and seriously injured. They were taken to a hospital in Ashkelon.
