Gaza, Alray – Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded US secretary of state John Kerry to release Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard in exchange for releasing long-jailed Palestinians, according to Israel channel 2.
Washington rejected the demand and refused to release the Israeli spy who has been in the American prisons since 1987, Israeli media sources said, adding it came under the frame work of the resumption of peace talks between Israel and Palestine.
Netanyahu made this step to reduce the pressure on him by the right wing ministers due to the resumption of negotiations. However, he agreed to return to talks without getting the American consent to release Pollard. .
Channel 2 pointed out that the Israeli government is to hold a meeting this week to take decisions concerning the negotiations and release of Palestinian prisoners.
