Gaza, Alray – The World Gathering to Set the Prisoners Free said on Saturday evening  the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails suspended their hunger strike in solidarity with Dirar Abu Sisi after the Israeli Prison Service(IPS), demanded an interval to end his solitary confinement.

Waed Association for Prisoners and Ex-prisoners had previously announced that six Palestinian prisoners from Eshel prison would launch an open-ended hunger strike after midnight as a first stage of  a mass hunger strike in solidarity with the isolated and hunger striking prisoner Dirar Abu Disi.

Waed pointed out in a statement, as all the dialogue between the Palestinian prisoners and the IPS, failed, prisoners movement and its senior leadership resorted to that option.

It indicated this week will witness new batches of hunger strikers from all Israeli prisons until ending Abu Sisi’s solitary confinement and the escalation against him. Waed called on all human right organizations to support the hunger striking prisoners and stop the media blackout by Israel on the Palestinian prisoners that help the IPS to continue their repressive acts against them.

Dirar Abu Sisi, 44, the deputy manager of the only power plant in the Gaza Strip, was in the Ukraine when he was kidnapped by the Israeli foreign intelligence agents on the 19th of  February 2011.

He was kept in solitary confinement since his abduction under extremely poor conditions. His health is deteriorating  and he suffers from psychological trauma. He was subjected to torture, humiliation and inhumane treatment in Israeli  prisons.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.

The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
