The protest was organized by the Popular Committee against the Wall and settlements in Bil’in and was titled “In Solidarity with Prisoners in Israeli Jails”, taking place after Friday prayers. Many of the leaders of the Palestinian factions, as well as Israelis and foreign solidarity activists. Protesters raised Palestinian flags, held up pictures of prisoner Asim Basman Yassin and chanted slogans calling for the departure of the occupation. They also called for the demolition of the apartheid wall and the liberation of prisoners.
Upon the arrival of the protesters to the area of the wall, Israeli soldiers behind the wall fired rubber bullets, teargas canisters and ‘skunk water’ – waste water mixed with chemicals. This led to some injuries and dozens of cases of suffocation which were treated in the field. Then the Israeli soldiers broke into the liberated zone and chased participants using jeeps in an attempt to arrest them. They attacked the crews of the press who were there, including a Palestinian TV crew. They also arrested a foreign journalist.
