Khudari: 100 million dollars losses of private sector in Gaza due to the siege

GAZA, (PIC)– MP Jamal Khudari, head of the popular committee against the siege, said the losses caused by the disruption of the projects in Gaza due to the Israeli siege reached one hundred million dollars.

Khudari stressed in a press statement on Saturday that the Israeli promises to allow entry of some quantities of construction materials – if fulfilled – would cover only 25% of projects, which means the continued disruption of a large part of the projects.

He said that this decision does not mean ending or easing the blockade, as Israel is still besieging Gaza, and added that ending the siege requires opening all the crossings and allowing the import and export of all goods without exceptions.

The MP said that the number of the projects that have been postponed is increasing in light of the tightening of the siege and the continued closure of the crossings.

Many of the supporting institutions stopped launching projects due to lack of construction materials and raw materials, he said.

Khudari also warned that the continued postponement of these projects means increasing the rates of unemployment and poverty in the Strip, which has been under siege for the seventh year unabated.

He appealed to the international community to exert pressure on Israel and take serious moves in order to lift the Gaza blockade.
