LONDON, (PIC)– Palestinian Affairs Centre condemned “the unethical practices by the Egyptian army against all Palestinians in general, and the people of the Gaza Strip in particular, which have recently increased.”

The centre reported in a statement on Saturday that Egyptian courts sentenced last Wednesday five Gaza fishermen to one year imprisonment and imposed a fine of 500 Egyptian pounds on them, after they had been attacked by the Egyptian Navy in the Palestinian territorial waters near the border with Egypt in late August.

The statement said the Egyptian forces also killed Palestinian refugees from Syria in the sea, in addition to causing serious injuries to several others, as they fired live bullets at a boat carrying 200 Palestinian and Syrian citizens who were on their way to Sweden to seek asylum.

It also pointed to the media campaigns and the allegations by the military forces against the resistance movements and the people of Gaza, and the Egyptian continued arbitrary procedures against the Palestinians, including the closure of the Rafah crossing.

The centre stressed that the Palestinian people did not and will never intervene in the internal affairs of Egyptian or any other Arab country.

“The fabrications and media campaigns led by the leadership of the Egyptian armed forces will not succeed in covering their daily crimes against the Egyptian people. The practices and recent measures against the Gaza Strip serve only the occupation, which is coordinating with the coup leaders in Egypt to subjugate the Strip and resistance factions,” the statement said.

The Centre said it is holding consultations with legal and human rights activists to prosecute all those responsible for the crimes committed against the civilians.

It called on the Egyptian authorities to immediately release the five fishermen, and stop all forms of abuse and hostility against the Palestinian people.
