Gov’t in Gaza slams Jordan’s dead sea canal project

GAZA, (PIC)– The Palestinian government in Gaza warned of the Jordanian plan to construct a canal linking the dead sea with the red sea, affirming that such a project involves political and economic risks to the Palestinian situation.

In a press release issued following its cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the government called for stopping this plan and described it as suspicious.

It stressed that this project would be exploited by the Israeli occupation to strengthen itself economically at the expense of the Palestinian people’s rights.

The press release, in another context, hailed the latest speech delivered by premier Ismail Haneyya and said it serves as a confluence for political forces to start promoting the national unity on correct foundations.

It called on the Palestinian political forces to take advantage of what had come in Haneyya’s speech to develop a national vision promoting adherence to the Palestinian constants and bridging the gap between the rivals to reach genuine reconciliation.

The government also hailed Qatar’s foreign minister Khaled bin Al-Attiyah for calling on the besieging parties to end their blockade on Gaza and open all border crossings.
