RAMALLAH, August 24, 2014 (WAFA) – Almost 69% of UNRWA and government schools in Gaza are damaged by Israeli assaults, Sunday said the ‘Gaza Under Fire’ report issued by the Negotiations Affairs Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

“At this time of the year, Palestinian children prepare to begin the new school year. But at least half a million of Gaza’s children will not begin the school as scheduled,” said the report.

“The opening of schools for Gaza’s children is delayed until further notice. Israel’s ongoing assault has significantly damaged at least 277 Governmental and UNRWA schools. About 30% are still being used as shelters for displaced families.”

The report added: Within the last 24-hours, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 13 Palestinians and injured more than 38. Israeli warplanes relentlessly bombed on Saturday the Zafer Tower, a 14-story building which consists of 45 apartments. As a result at least 17 people were injured, including women and children and 45 families have been displaced.

Israel’s Criminal Assault on the Occupied State of Palestine

OVERVIEW

  • Statistics after 50 days of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip (July 6th – August 24th).

Within the last 24-hours, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 13 Palestinians and injured more than 38. Israeli warplanes relentlessly bombed on Saturday the Zafer Tower, a 14-story building which consists of 45 apartments. As a result at least 17 people were injured, including women and children and 45 families have been displaced.

As Israel continues its deliberate attacks on the defenseless Palestinian civilians in Gaza, the death toll has risen to 2105 and more than 10,640 wounded. Among those killed are at least 567 children, 259 women and 100 elderly.

‘69% of UNRWA and Government Schools are damaged by Israeli Assaults’

At this time of the year, Palestinian children prepare to begin the new school year. But at least half a million of Gaza’s children will not begin the school as scheduled. The opening of schools for Gaza’s children is delayed until further notice. Israel’s ongoing assault has significantly damaged at least 277 Governmental and UNRWA schools. About 30% are still being used as shelters for displaced families. [1]

The international community must hold Israel responsible for its crimes

July 6that 00:00 AM – August 24th at 12:00 PM[2]

  • Palestinians killed: 2,105
  • Palestinians Injured: 10,640
  • Demolished Structures: 9,600
  • Partially Demolished Structures: 7,600
  • Damaged Homes: 40,000
  • Schools Damaged: 141 Government Schools and 136 UNRWA Schools
  • Damaged Hospitals and Health Centers – 10 hospitals and 7 PHC clinics were damaged, 5 hospitals and 44 primary health clinics were closed, 16 ambulances were damaged, and 83 health personnel injured, 23 health personnel died after Israeli airstrikes.
  • Attacks against Religious Sites – 66 mosques cannot be used and 197 have been partially damaged. Ten Muslim cemeteries have been targeted. Two Churches and one Christian cemetery have been partially damaged. Two churches and one christian cemetery have been Partially Damaged.

Not less than 600,000 people are displaced (almost one third of the Gaza population) –1,700,000 people (the entire population of the Gaza Strip) have been affected by the destruction of electricity, water and waste water infrastructures.

Israeli disregard to the lives of Palestinians has resulted in the killing of hundreds. Instead of learning from previous experiences, some countries gave green light to Israeli forces to bombard and invade the Gaza Strip. The international community has the legal and moral responsibility to protect the Palestinian population living under Israeli occupation and to hold Israel accountable regarding its severe violations of the international humanitarian law. Lack of accountability will continue to fuel Israeli atrocities and crimes. Lack of international action will continue to increase the list of people killed, injured and displaced.”

THE LEGAL RIGHT OF RESISTANCE

Is Resisting Genocide a Human Right?

Right to Resist

81 Notre Dame Law Review1275 (2006). Conducting an in-depth study of the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, and also discussing other genocides, this article details the inadequacy of many of the international community’s response to genocides, such as “targeted sanctions” or international peacekeeping forces. Examining international legal authorities such as the Genocide Convention, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Court of Justice, the article demonstrates that groups which are being subjected to genocide have a legal right of self-defense. International treaties, Security Council arms embargoes, or national gun control laws cannot lawfully be enforced in a manner which prevents self-defense resistance to a genocide in progress, because under international law, the prohibition against any form of complicity in genocide takes legal precedence over lesser laws.

GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING OF PALESTINE

Genocide in Photos

Since 1937 (Pre)Israel terrorism commits ongoing massacres in Palestine. Violent genocide, but the least known, silent genocide causing excess death by deliberate racist policies of deprivation. The same deprivation which according the Israeli narrative have cost 1/6 of Jewish Holocaust victims (1 of 6 million). The cost in human lives by avoidable mortality for the sake of the creation of Israel according to research (by Dr. Gideon Polya) in Palestine and neighboring countries is 24 million lives.
