GAZA, (PIC)– Member of Hamas’s political bureau Mohamed Nazzal said that there are Israeli prisoners in Palestinian captivity in the Gaza Strip and his Movement is ready to engage in talks over them.
In press remarks on Wednesday, Nazzal asserted that his Movement is willing to discuss the issue of the Israeli prisoners, but that must be separated from the recent truce deal with Israel.
Al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas had declared on July 20 that it was able to capture an Israeli soldier identified as Shaul Aaron during a commando operation that led to the killing of 14 soldiers and injury of over 50 others.
Later, the Israeli army said it had lost contact with officer Hadar Goldin during armed clashes on Friday, August 1, 2014 with fighters from Al-Qassam Brigades to the east of Rafah area.
The Hamas official also stated that the Israeli leadership hid the true figures about the soldiers and officers killed and wounded during the war.
“Our sources indicate that the number of the killed officers and soldiers exceeded 1,000 and the wounded topped 2,000,” he said.
Nazzal highlighted what he described as the strategic achievements of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, and expressed his belief that the resistance was able to debunk the theory of the invincible army.
