OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem fought back after Jewish fanatics infiltrated the sacred site during the forty-fourth anniversary of the Israeli military occupation of Jerusalem.

Muslims who had gone in reclusion since dawn prayers were dragged into intermittent clashes with the Jewish fanatics and Israeli police, the mosque security guards said.

Police proceeded to bring more of its elements to the scene, the sources added, expressing fear of a wide-ranging raid that followed to disperse the worshipers and eject them from the mosque.

Jewish groups had announced beforehand that they would infiltrate the mosque in a bid to enforce ”Israeli sovereignty” over it, as they marked the occupation of East Jerusalem, according to Jewish calendars.

Israeli authorities turned the holy city into what would appear to be a military barracks on Wednesday, as the Israeli occupation forces had begun since the night before setting up steel barricades on several main streets leading to the Old City and nearby areas. Patrols were also deployed there and on the roads directing to the Al-Baraq Square, known to Jews as the wailing wall, and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The IOF boosted presence in the city’s Sheikh Jarrah district, with focus on areas near Palestinian homes that were turned into settlement outposts.

The measures come as hundreds of Jewish settlers gear themselves to take part in provocative marches in Sheikh Jarrah staged by extreme Jewish groups on Wednesday.

The Jews said they would wave Israeli flags and organize dances at the Old City’s entrances and around those of Al-Aqsa Mosque to celebrate.
