Israeli Soldiers Kill Palestinian Near Qalandia

WAFA Feb 24 2012

RAMALLAH, February 24, 2012 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers Friday opened fire and killed Talat Ramiyeh, 23, during demonstrations near the Israeli army checkpoint at Qalandia, south of Ramallah, according to medical sources.

Some reports said Ramiyeh was killed outside al-Ram, south of Qalandia checkpoint when residents marched to the outskirts of the town to protest Israeli police actions against Palestinians at al-Aqsa Mosque earlier in the day.

Violent protests had also erupted at Qalandia refugee camp and soldiers manning the checkpoint opened live fire, and shot rubber bullets and tear gas grenades at the Palestinians who threw rocks at the soldiers.

Reports said Ramiyeh was shot and seriously wounded at Qalandia and later died in hospital of his wounds. Several other people were injured in the clashes.

At least 14 people were hurt in the earlier clashes at al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem when police attacked stone-throwing protesters following the Friday prayer at the mosque.

Police attacked worshippers and many older people were hit by club-yielding police who followed the stone-throwers into the Dome of the Rock.

Worshippers prevented the police from entering the Dome building and after a tense situation, police withdrew to the gates outside the Mosque compound and allowed people to leave the area.
