Palestinian government news wire Wafa said that Israeli forces raided the area in the morning and started to demolish the homes of Jiries Zeidan, Yousef Salman Zumut, Khader Khaliliyeh and Abed Odeh. Israeli officers described the houses as being “old” and recently reconstructed in violation of Israeli permit regulations.
Palestinian citizen Elias al-Hodali told Wafa that Israeli soldiers had also raided the area on Monday and handed the citizens notices forbidding them from repairing their homes under the pretext that the lands were Israeli property.
Khader Khaliliyeh, one of the landowners, said that he was never warned of the demolition and that the house that the Israeli forces demolished was built years ago. He said he was using it as a storehouse for agricultural tools and stressed that the procedures were part of a bigger plan to deport Palestinians and control their lands.
Israeli authorities also handed evacuation notices to five farmers from Qarawah Bani Hassan, a village in Salfit governorate, and forbade them from planting their lands.
The head of the village council called on the PA to intervene. The farmers who have the ownership papers are Yousef Sa’id Mara’i, Nader Mustafa Mara’i, Sabir Mustafa Mara’i, Khader Isma’il Saloum Mara’i and Samih Ibrahim Assi.
The secretary of the village municipality, Hussam Assi, said that Israeli authorities gave the farmers ,who own hundreds of dunums, a 45-day period to take up the issue with Israeli courts.
