Justice ministry: WB elections null and void

GAZA, (PIC)– The justice ministry in Gaza has lashed out at the illegitimate Ramallah government of Salam Fayyad for calling for local elections next July, describing the process as null and void.

The ministry in a statement on Wednesday evening said that the Fayyad government is illegitimate and thus has no right to call for elections.

The call for elections would deepen internal Palestinian division and would bring about illegitimate local councils, it elaborated.

The ministry urged all Palestinian factions to reject the call because it contravened the constitution and law.

For its part, the Ahrar faction described the call for elections as “frivolous”, adding in a statement on Wednesday that the step was an attempt to circumvent the Palestinian de facto situation.

Holding such elections without national consensus was “invalid”, Ahrar said, affirming it would not recognize such elections or their results.
