Israel guilty of war crimes in Gaza assault

Friday, 12 August 2011

Colin Nevin (Write Back, August 10) states: “The Israeli government was lambasted internationally for every move it made in self-defence in Gaza, which was later exonerated by the findings of the Goldstone Report.”This is not correct: the fact-finding mission found prima facie evidence that Israel committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during its 22-day military assault on Gaza which began on December 27, 2008.

These included deliberate targeting of civilians, deliberate destruction of civilian buildings and infrastructure, attacks on UN facilities, medical facilities and personnel and the use of civilians as human shields.
